Every fault we see is written in the condition note, and the whole sheet is shown uncropped in the photos.
An original antique steel engraving, uncolored, with two views of the Holy Land, captioned "LAC DE TIBÉRIADE" and "MURS DE JÉRUSALEM". The upper vignette looks down a rocky valley to the Lake of Tiberias, the Sea of Galilee, with a small walled town with domes and a minaret on its shore and bare mountains beyond the water. A line of pack animals with a driver moves along the path on the left. The lower vignette shows the long crenellated walls of Jerusalem with a gate on the left, and above them the domes, minarets and towers of the city, among them a large domed building. In the foreground two men, one seated, rest on a rise beneath a tall tree, with goats grazing around them.
The captions translate as Lake of Tiberias and Walls of Jerusalem. The publisher's line at the foot reads "Publié par Furne, à Paris" (Published by Furne, in Paris), and in small letters at the lower right corner of the lower image the printer's line reads "Imp. Delamain, 8, r. Git-le-Cœur, Paris.", and just above it the plate is signed "alp. Boilly", the signature of the engraver Alphonse Boilly.
The source is Voyage en Asie et en Afrique by MM. Eyriès and Alfred Jacobs, a volume of the Histoire générale des voyages by Dumont d'Urville, d'Orbigny, Eyriès and A. Jacobs. It was published in Paris by Furne et Cie, éditeurs, 45 rue Saint-André-des-Arts, and its title page is dated M DCCC LIX (1859). Like the other plates in the book, this one is a steel engraving with a French caption.
It pairs well with the plate of the Holy Sepulchre and the Mosque of Omar from the same book.
Condition: Light handling wear to the bottom left corner; minor nicks along the left edge. Even age toning, soiled along the bottom, right and top edges. A few small foxing spots in the margin. Faint water stain in the upper part of the sheet.
This is an original antique print, not a modern reproduction. This item is sold unframed. Any framed or interior images are shown for presentation and inspiration only, unless the listing explicitly states that the item is sold framed.
