The Plaza Mayor of Lima with the cathedral, an original steel engraving printed in Paris in the 1860s. The plate is lettered "Lima", engraved by Ed. Willmann and printed by Chardon, and belongs to a series of Latin American city views published around 1867.

The view is taken from a rooftop terrace, where two women in long skirts stand at the left and two men talk near the center. Below them the cathedral dominates the plaza with its decorated central portal and two tall towers topped with domes, and a fountain stands in the open square in front. A second church with twin towers and domes rises in the left distance, and the city's flat roofs spread out toward a range of Andean mountains under a broad sky.

The cathedral was begun in the 16th century and rebuilt after earthquakes. It stands on the main square of the Peruvian capital.
