A devotional print of the "Verdadera Imagen del Ssmo. Christo de Guamantanga", an original copperplate engraving with early hand coloring, made in Peru and dated 1779. The title and a Spanish inscription are engraved in a panel at the foot of the sheet, recording that the image is venerated in the village of that name in the Province of Canta, in the Kingdom of Peru, in the year 1779.

At the center a crucifix stands beneath a round arch with a coffered vault, a skull at its foot and "INRI" above the head. Two figures kneel in prayer on either side: at the left a bearded man in a blue and green robe, and at the right a man in a red coat and wig. Fluted columns hung with ribbons and garlands frame the scene, and cherubs and a small cross crown the arch. Four oval medallions, two on each side, show scenes from the miracles and veneration of the crucifix, each with its own lettered legend. The coloring is in blues, greens, reds and yellow.

Engraved devotional images made in colonial Peru are far less common than European ones, and this sheet records a local cult from the Viceroyalty of Peru.
