The church of La Merced in Honduras, an original steel engraving from Louis Énault's L'Amérique centrale et méridionale, published in Paris in 1867. The plate is lettered "Église de la Merced, à Honduras", engraved by Outhwaite after a drawing by Gustave Janet, with the printer's line of Chardon.

The church is seen from the corner of its square, with a richly carved baroque façade and a deep arched doorway between a taller pointed tower and a shorter tower. The long nave runs back to the right with a plain wall and a small side window, and a flight of steps leads along the front. Women in long dark shawls and men in broad hats gather before the doorway and cross the square, and a pile of fallen stones lies at the lower right.

Énault's book was written to introduce French readers to Central and South America, and the plate pairs architectural detail with a sketch of local costume.
