Antique print titled 'Corpus S. Nili e monasterio S. Agathae ad Ecclesiam Coenobii (..)'. Scarce plate showing the corpse of Saint Nilus surrounded by monks in the monastery of St. Agatha. After one of the frescoes Domenico Zapieri painted for the Abbey of Grottaferrata (near Rome). This Abbey was founded by St. Nilus of Rossano and St.Bartolomeus in 1004. The frescoes were commissioned from Domenichino (Domenico Zampieri) by Cardinal Odoardo Farnese; the titular Abbot of this Abbey. This print originates from 'Picturae Dominici Zampierii, vulgo Domenichino, quae extant in sacello sacrae aedi Cryptoferratensi adjuncto tabulis aeneis incisae' published 1762.

Artists and Engravers: Made by 'P. Pazzi' after 'Domenico Zampieri'. Pietro Antonio Pazzi (1706, 1766), Engraver. Domenico Zampieri, known as Domenichino for his shortness (October 21, 1581, April 6, 1641), was an Italian Baroque painter of the Bolognese or Carracci School of painters.

Condition: Good, given age. Some staining near the edges, not image. A few minor spots. Two tiny worm holes upper left and right margin, not affecting image. Original middle fold as issued. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study image carefully.
